This is Awkward

Milo

“Hey,” I say a little too loudly.

Laney startles and spills hot coffee on her blouse. We both reach for a tissue on her desk at the same time and blot at the wet spot. I also grab the bottle of water bottle by her laptop and unscrew the top, ready if she screams that the coffee’s burning her. Not that soaking her shirt is the way to go. We’re at work – not at the local bar’s wet t-shirt night. I watch the stain blossom on the pink fabric.

Pink fabric…like the panties I ordered from her yesterday. Sure, I’ve now felt the real thing around my cock, but I can’t stop ordering her underwear. I want to see, feel, and taste every pair that comes through that website. There’s also a little of me that wants to support her. I get an adrenaline rush when I think about touching anything belonging to her, but that doesn’t compare with the elation at the thought that I’m helping her out. Being her hero in some way.

Thank fuck Landon stayed at a random woman’s house the same night Laney stayed over. I snuck Laney out at six in the morning and missed Landon by ten minutes. It was a close call.

Laney’s face reddens with either embarrassment about our night together or pain from the coffee. Hopefully, it’s the coffee that has her not looking at me as she dabs herself. I want her to be proud of us the other night. I don’t want her to regret it like it was a drunken shag or that we did anything wrong.

“Milo, you scared the shit out of me.”

I purse my lips and think of something to say that could truly dazzle her. I’ve talked to thousands of women on the spot and have wooed them with witty banter. Why do I have such an issue coming up with something to say to her? Fear of rejection?

“Fancy seeing you here.” I cringe after the words come out. Great. I sound like an eighty-year-old woman. “Just thought I’d come by and see how you are. You left in a hurry the other day.”

She tosses the tissues in the trash and sighs, looking at her shirt and realizing it’s toast. “I didn’t want to run into Landon. How are…” Her voice trails away and she closes her eyes, shaking her head like she wants to restart the conversation. “How was the rest of your weekend?”

“Good,” I say, sitting in the small chair next to her desk. “I would have liked to have made you breakfast. Can I do that sometime this week?”

“Breakfast?” she asks.

“Eggs. Bacon. Biscuits or pancakes. Your choice on that. The first meal of the day.”

“How would that work with Landon as a roommate?”

“OK, I’ll take you to breakfast.”

She smiles a weak grin and blinks. “Do you mean a date?”

“No!” I say, and her face falls. Part of my heart swoops to see that she’s disappointed because I don’t think of it as a date.
